Arsenal and Liverpool played out a thrilling 3-3 draw to open the festive football programme with a bang.
Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah put the visitors in firm control as Arsenal’s defensive problems resurfaced, but three goals in five second-half minutes saw the Gunners turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead.
Alexis Sanchez, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil were all on target – via the assistance of some woeful defending and goalkeeping – before Roberto Firmino rounded off the scoring.
Liverpool were forced into an early change when captain Jordan Henderson limped off with an injury on 11 minutes, to be replaced by James Milner, but they coasted through to half-time and doubled their lead shortly after the break.
But the hosts – who were booed off by their fans at the interval – clawed their way back into it, and eventually took the lead with a neat finish from Ozil.
Liverpool saved their embarrassment after Petr Cech gloved Firmino’s shot into the net.
