Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for what could be a club-record deal.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Frenchman for some time now but it had been reported that Atletico Madrid were leading the way.
However Atletico are now under a registration ban and reports on Friday afternoon suggest that Arsenal are now leading the way.
The BBC and the Telegraph both report that the two Arsenal and Lyon are close to agreeing a fee and it is likely to break their current record of £42.4 million which they paid Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil.
Lacazette scored 28 goals in Ligue 1 last season as well as six more in the Champions League.
Lyon on Friday announced the signing of striker Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid, leading to further speculation that the club are preparing to lose Lacazette.
Speaking at the press conference to unveil Mariano Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said that at the moment there was no agreement with Arsenal.
“The moment hasn’t come to reach an agreement with Arsenal under current conditions (offered),” Aulas said.
He added that there had been no discussions over the possibility of a swap deal involving Olivier Giroud.
“We have never discussed an exchange with Arsenal for Olivier Giroud with Alexandre Lacazette.”
