Kieran Gibbs scored a late equaliser as Arsenal struggled before snatching a 1-1 draw against a hungry Spurs side. Arsenal appeared to have Spurs on the ropes in the early stages of the first half, but for all they stretched their opponents, they couldn’t get a dangerous shot on target, with Alexis Sanchez seeing an effort deflected wide.
It was Spurs who took the lead, when Laurent Koscielny stepped up too late, allowing Harry Kane to race towards Petr Cech and lift the ball over the goalkeeper. In the second half, Olivier Giroud missed two superb chances, heading one onto the crossbar and another wide of the far post, as Arsenal gained more control following the introduction of Mathieu Flamini in place of Santi Cazorla. Spurs hit back, with Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen both bringing smart stops from Petr Cech, but it was Gibbs who scored next as he forced in Mesut Ozil’s cross at the back post.
