Arsenal didn’t want to meet PSG’s price for Cavani, while West Brom have a problem with Berahino. That and more from Wednesday’s papers.
Arsenal wouldn’t pay for Cavani – Arsenal could have had Edinson Cavani, but The Mirror claim that they weren’t willing to pay the £50 million that Paris Saint-Germain wanted for the striker. The Gunners enquired about Cavani, but were turned off by his price because the Uruguayan is 28 years old so he would have little sell-on value. Instead, they let the transfer deadline pass without a single outfield player signed.
Arsenal aren’t a club that will overpay to get a man they don’t value extremely highly and have made a priority. Cavani was never that man, nor was Karim Benzema for that matter. Clubs that are looser with their spending may have looked at the way Cavani could improve the team and shell out, but the Gunners were always unlikely to do so at PSG’s price
