Barcelona host Chapecoense plane crash survivors on emotional night at the Camp Nou

Barcelona hosted a very special friendly at the Camp Nou on Monday night as the Spanish giants welcomed Chapecoense to the Catalan capital.

The Brazilian club was left reeling in November 2016 when a plane carrying the squad and its entourage crashed, killing 71 of the 77 people on board.

Nine months on and a club still picking up the pieces after the terrible tragedy travelled to Spain to play Barca – the team who first reached out to them in their hour of need (the Blaugrana were quick to respond, sending a large amount of money to the Brazilian club in order to help the organisation survive).

The hosts won 5-0, but the night was about far more than that… with the three surviving members of the 2016 side taking to the field, and the team wearing special commemorative shirts that featured a star for each of those who passed away in November’s crash.
