Chelsea are hoping to complete the signing of Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante over the weekend, according to a report.
Chelsea made a £29 million bid for Kante this week and Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri confirmed that he is leaving the decision up to the player as to whether or not he wishes to depart.
According to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Kante is to inform Ranieri and Leicester that he wishes to leave for Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
“The Blues are hoping to conclude negotiations over the weekend and make Kante their second summer signing, following the capture of striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille,” Law wrote in the paper.
Ranieri remains hopeful of keeping Kante as Leicester prepare for their title defence, but the Italian insists he wants the midfielder to make up his mind quickly.
“I have heard there is so much speculation behind him, I don’t want to lose him but I can understand if he wants to go,” said Ranieri.
“We offered a new contract to him, he went away because he wanted to finish Euro 2016. At this point, I hope the team brings the maximum [transfer fee for him]. I want him here. But I don’t know.
“I would like now to be sure who stays with me or not because now the friendlies start and I have to start to manage.
” I would like to understand if he stays with me or not. I speak often with him. If one is not happy with me I prefer that he goes.”
Kante is expected to sign a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, where new manager Antonio Conte was unveiled on Thursday afternoon.
