Toni Elias will race for Forward Racing for the rest of the MotoGP season following the departure of Claudio Corti.
Former Moto2 World Champion Elias made an appearance for AB Motoracing at this year’s Indianapolis round as a replacement for injured Karel Abraham, but he also spent several seasons with Gresini Racing while he also had stints with Pramac Racing and Team LCR.
He will be back on the grid for the final five races of 2015 after the team confirmed the exit of Corti, who only joined Forward Racing midway through the season after Stefan Bradl left for Aprillia.
“We are delighted to welcome Toni Elias to our team for the rest of the season, five races to go, two of which are in Spain,” Giovanni Cuzari of Forward Racing said.
“We are proud to have a former World Champion riding the Yamaha Forward. Special thanks to Claudio, who has always been close to Forward Racing, and has stayed with us in the past few races putting himself fully at the team disposal.”
Elias added: “I can’t be happier to be back racing in MotoGP. This year I was already on track at Indianapolis but only for one race, with Forward I get the chance to finish the season.
“I wish to thank Giovanni and the whole team for this great opportunity. The goal is to work hard and enjoy the ride: the results will come. I am very motivated and enthusiastic.”
