Heartland put dent on Enyimba’s title run

Emeka Ogbugh’s stunning second half strike condemned six-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba to a 2-1 draw with Heartland at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The forward danced his way through the right and fired an unstoppable effort past the Enyimba goalkeeper, Chijioke Ejiogu from a very tight angle.

Markson Ojobo had converted a penalty on the stroke of half time to temporarily draw the Peoples Elephant level after Heartland FC took the lead through Fortune Omoniwari on 40 minutes.

Enyimba went into the game, three points clear at the top of the table and were hoping to get a result in Owerri to pull clear of second-placed Warri Wolves who beat third-placed Sunshine Stars 3-0 on Saturday.

Sharks and Dolphins failed to help their cause to escape relegation cause as they posted underwhelming results in their respective fixtures.

The Blue Angels lost 0-2 to El-Kanemi Warriors with Benjamin Turba and Efe Yarhere getting the goals.

Dolphins were held to a goalless draw by FC Ifeanyiubah at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium.

Wikki Tourists beat FC Taraba 1-0 and Victor Yakubu got the only goal of the match following good work from Uche Martins.

Shooting Stars drew 0-0 with Bayelsa United in Ibadan while Nasarawa United beat Lobi Stars 1-0 in Lafia.

Kwara United beat Akwa United 2-1 at the Kwara Stadium.

Sheriff Jimoh and Dare Ojo scored for the hosts while Aniekpeno Udoh claimed the consolation for the visitors.

The champions, Kano Pillars put up a defensive masterclass at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos to draw 0-0 with Giwa FC.
