COOLAVANNY JAP could enjoy a fruitful end to his 2015 campaign and can advertise his prospects for the competition proper by taking a Betfred Eclipse trial stakes over 500m at Nottingham this evening (8.52, live on SIS).
The Scottish Derby third opened his account for Derek Law with a smooth success at Henlow last month and was perhaps unlucky not to follow up there when denied racing room at a vital time next time out.
He lacks experience of this course but it should play to his strengths and the inside draw is a bonus. He can lead by the first bend.
Infuriatingly, two further trial stakes for the Eclipse have been positioned after the Bags section of the card which is hardly conducive to building up national interest in the forthcoming competition.
Pat Rosney can land both courtesy of Ascot Woodie (9.41), who has hit a rich vein of form, and Swift Carter (10.00) who went down narrowly in a desperate finish over 480m last week.
First of the night’s opens is a 500m maiden at 7.48 in which Bob Hall’s local Garryglass Penny may not have to produce much more than last week’s winning A2 effort to go in again on home sand.
Two heats of the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden Stayers Trophy over 680m can go to Phil Wilson’s Holdem Apache (8.04) and Jane White’s Precious Rebel (8.19).
Charlie Lister’s Tiermana Power (9.07) and David Pruhs’s exciting prospect Scolari Sound (9.22) are the picks in 305m sprint heats, while Lister’s Coolavanny Pat can take a 480m puppy open at 8.36.
Romford’s evening Bags meeting has the re-run of a maiden stayers’ heat over 575m at 6.56. Friday’s void contest was ‘won’ by Sportsmans Jojo who is obviously respected as a result but the look round should have done Ken Tester’s Britania Belucky the world of good and she is worth chancing.
