Saturday’s papers touch on Mourinho’s eyewatering contract offer, Antonio Conte wants Romelu Lukaku back at Chelseawhile Mario Gotze is warned off a Liverpool move.
Jose Mourinho’s potential £60 million deal withManchester United
The Sun are reporting that Jose Mourinho could be football’s highest paid manager with Manchester United prepared to offer the Special One a deal worth a whopping £60 million. The report says the deal would include bonuses and is worth around £20 million a year, more than the £15 million a year dealManchester City signed Mourinho’s rival Pep Guardiola on.
Paper Round’s view: An astounding and risky investment all things considered. But it’s extraordinarily tempting as despite the change room flare ups and the controversies, Mourinho is a winner.
Antonio Conte puts Romelu Lukaku at the top of his Chelsea shopping list
Also in the Sun, incoming Italian boss Antonio Conte will make overtures to recapture the signature of Everton hitman and former Blue Romelu Lukaku. According to the story, Conte is convinced he can build his attack around the Belgian international, however the story points out that Everton are expected to demand a fee at least double of the £28 million they paid for Lukaku in 2014.
Paper Round’s view: No doubt Chelsea could find the money somewhere, it honestly comes down to what suits Lukaku. Lukaku has signalled he wants to play Champions League, something that Chelsea won’t be doing next year, but will likely be back in contention for the following year. Have Everton got enough improvement and investment in them to convince Lukaku to stay?
Mario Gotze told to rethink potential Liverpool move by Joachim Low
The Daily Mail are reporting that Germany’s manager Joachim Low has pleaded with Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze to hold talks with the incoming Carlo Ancelotti, before he is potentially lured to England by Jurgen Klopp’s overtures. The report says that Klopp is keen on taking advantage of the situation in which Gotze has been on the fringes at Bayern, starting on the bench under Pep Guardiola.
Paper Round’s view: Hard what to make out of this one. It’s clear Liverpool are pushing hard for Gotze, but perhaps there are some in Germany who believe a move to England is not in the player’s best interest in terms of development. Definitely keep watching this space.
United consider summer move for Inter Milan’s Jeison Murillo
Manchester United could make a £15 million summer move for Inter Milan defender Jeison Murillo, according to the Mirror. The 23 year old Colombian international has made 27 Serie A appearances, been capped 16 times for his country and named the best young player of the 2015 Copa America tournament.
Paper Round’s view: Strong pedigree and is impressing, but Inter probably won’t let their man go for such a low fee considering Roberto Mancini is a big fan. One that may drag out over the summer.
