Move over, Lewandowski: Aubameyang is the hottest striker in town

While Robert Lewandowski is getting all the plaudits for his blistering form for Bayern Munich, he has a rival at Borussia Dortmund who is more than matching him goal for goal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s hat-trick against Augsburg takes his tally to 20 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions this season and has beaten Lewandowski’s 23 Bundesliga goals in 2015 alone – notching 24.

The 26-year-old also became the first man in Bundesliga history to score on each of the first eight games of the season and equalled a league record of scoring for 10 consecutive goals with a goal again Bayern on October 4.

Aubameyang has now scored 13 goals in the opening 10 games of the Bundesliga season, matching Lewandowski, a record only bettered by Gerd Muller’s return of 15 goals in 1968-69.

The Gabon international’s treble on Sunday comes just three days after netting three against Qabala in the Europa League, making him the first Bundesliga player in the last three seasons to score at least three or more goals in back-to-back competitive matches.
