Abia Warriors and Plateau United continued their fine run in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with victories in Wednesday’s matches.
Warriors handed newly-promoted Katsina United a 2-0 defeat while Plateau United produced an amazing performance to see off two-time African champions Enyimba 3-1 on the day.
Godwin Zaki continued from where he stopped on the opening day by scoring the first goal for Abia Warriors from a Sheriff Bashir assist. Zaki has now scored two goals.
A second-half strike by former Sunshine Stars wing back Seun Olulayo doubled the lead of Abia Warriors against Katsina United as the Umuahia club maintained their 100 pe cent run after their opening day win at Enugu Rangers on Sunday.
At the Rwang Pam Stadium, Enyimba head coach Gbenga Ogunbote opted to leave his captain, Mfon Udoh, on the bench from the start against Plateau United and it was the hosts that began on the front foot.

Abia Warriors and Plateau United now have six points and occupy first and second places respectively on the NPFL log.
Newly-promoted ABS FC could only hold a first-half lead scored by Mohammed Mohammed for seven minutes at Niger Tornadoes before Ebenezer Odeyemi drew the Minna club level before the break. The game ended 1-1 as there were no more goals in the second 45 minutes.
Solomon Kwambe’s deep cross which caught Kano Pillars goalkeeper David Obiazo off guard was all Lobi Stars needed to earn their first points of the season in a 1-0 victory over the Kano club.
FC Ifeanyiubah put their off-the-pitch troubles behind them to produce a superb performance against MFM FC. The Anambra Warriors were in no mood for errors as Yaya Kone, King Osanga, Jimoh Oni and Ifeanyi Onuigbo scored in their 4-0 win.
Akwa United and Rivers United settled for a 1-1 draw to share the points. Bernard Ovoke’s 26th-minute goal for Rivers United cancelled Cyril Olisema’s seventh-minute strike.
The champions Rangers were 23 minutes away from suffering a second defeat on the spin at Nasarawa United before Fortune Omoniwari popped up to cancel Adamu Hassan’s strike earlier in the second half to leave the score at 1-1.
In the clash of newly-promoted sides at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe United had to turn things around to win 2-1 against Remo Stars. Austin Oladapo and Fabassou Djoufoune scored for Gombe United while Victor Mbaoma’s goal could not help Remo Stars avoid defeat for a second matchday.
The southwest derby between Sunshine Stars and 3SC produced just one goal. Sunshine Stars won 1-0 through Sunday Oluwadamilare’s goal with 12 minutes to full time.
El-Kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists will wrap up the second matchday in the Nigerian top-flight on Thursday.
