PREMIER LEAGUE: Tottenham close to finalising deal for Nigerian starlet Victor Osimhen

Tottenham Hotpsur have completed the signing of 16-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, following his stellar display in the recent under 17 World Cup.

According to media source the Metro, Tottenham Hotpsur have completed the signing of 16-year-old Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, following his stellar display in the recent under 17 World Cup.

Osimhen has been linked with both Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal, as well as with Liverpool, but it seems that Mauricio Pochettino’s drive to developing young talent has helped the club secure another top prospect.

The pacy striker scored a total of ten goals in the tournament, scoring in each of the final, semi finals and quarter finals, as well as a hat-trick in the round of 16. Osimhen’s Nigeria disposed of the hotly tipped Brazilians and Mexicans en route to the final, where they defeated Mali 2-0 to lift the trophy.

His ten goals is a new record for the most amount of goals scored in the under 17 World Cup and he was bound to gain a lot of interest from top flight clubs from across Europe as a result of his performances.

Despite the reports though, nothing official has been stated, with some media outlets suggesting that the North London club are merely in talks with Osimhen’s representatives and nothing more.

Spurs fans would be excited by the prospect of such a signing, but these young entities are somewhat of an unknown and have a history of failing to deliver when coming from abroad at such a young age.

In the meantime, Pochettino will be preparing for the majority of his first team players to return from international duty next week, with a tasty fixture at home to West Ham United next on the cards for Spurs.

The Hammers will be hosted at White Hart Lane next Sunday, with Spurs recently leapfrogging their London rivals into 5th place on 21 points in the Barclays Premier League following the point gained in the derby with Arsenal last weekend.
