Enugu Rangers have moved into second place in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after recording a 2-1 victory over Warri Wolves on Friday.
At a packed Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, the home side put in a commanding first half performance to seal maximum points.
The Flying Antelopes got off to flyer, scoring the opening goal in the seventh minute through Obinna Nwobodo after Godwin Aguda and Chidiebere Okolie played a one-two with the latter displaying impressive vision to set free the goalscorer.
Rangers doubled their lead six minutes before the break when Godwin Aguda coolly slotted a penalty kick past the Wolves goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye.
Wolves responded almost immediately when Zinte Udeh headed home a cross with the Rangers goalkeeper, Nana Bonsu in no man’s land.
The two sides traded chances in the second half but there was to be no further scoring.
The win sees Rangers leapfrog Rivers United into second place as they have now amassed 39 points from 23 matches.
Wolves stay in 12th place with 30 points from 23 matches.
