The Sun reports that Wayne Rooney is now prepared to move to China in pursuit of one last payday. Rooney had preferred to move to America, but there have been no serious offers from MLS, so he will now consider a move to China where he could earn £1 million a week. The decision to move has been made easier as he has dropped out of the England and Manchester United first teams.
Rooney has often been reported as unwilling to move to China, preferring the relatively familiar culture of America. It is testament to his alarming decline over the last five years that MLS aren’t desperate to pay his way if he continues to be so ineffective. If he does desire to earn one last bumper deal, then China is his only option. It would be an admission that he won’t retire from international duty at the next World Cup, though – he would no longer be considered if he played in China.
