The calendar Grand Slam is still on as Serena Williams beat Kiki Bertens at the US Open to reach the third round at Flushing Meadows.
Though she won in straight sets 7-6 6-3, she was made to work by Bertens and was broken early in the contest before recovering to win the opening set on a tie-break.
“I just thought one point at a time. I kept fighting for each point,” she said courtside after the win.
“I know that I can try and make a comeback when I’m behind and I just keep making the best effort that I can.
“I was a little tight today; usually I’m a little relaxed.”
