England goalkeeper Joe Hart was chuckling on Saturday night after his replacement at Manchester City, Claudio Bravo, made a blunder during the Manchester derby.
Fast forward a little over 24 hours and any schadenfreude felt by Hart was well and truly swallowed up by embarrassment at his own gaffe on debut for his new team, Torino.
No player has made more defensive errors leading to a goal in Serie A this season than Torino’s Joe Hart (1).
The 29-year-old’s team were 1-0 up against Atalanta 10 minutes into the second half when Hart took it upon himself to charge out and try to palm away a corner.
It didn’t work out that way, with Hart gifting the ball to an opponent and taking himself out thanks to a slightly insane ‘superman’ dive.
By the time he got back to his feet, the ball was in the back of the net via the boot of Andrea Masiello.
Hart went on to concede another later on, getting sent the wrong way by Franck Kessié as Atalanta picked up their first points of the season.
It all capped off a bad day, which had started with the player being named ‘John Hart’ on the team sheet.
Maybe Torino really should have picked John Hart instead. Maybe next time, they will.
