Zesco United restored a nine point lead at the top of the standings from second placed Zanaco following a commanding display in their 3 – 0 victory over Power Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Wednesday.
Clatous Chama opened the scoring in the 47th minute while John Ching’andu and Winston Kalengo scored a goal apiece in in stoppage time.
A single point from their last three matches will be enough for Zesco United, who have 63 points, to retain the championship they won last season.
Second placed Zanaco could only play out a 1 – 1 draw at Nkwazi and they have a mathematical chance of winning the league if they won all their last three matches and Zesco United lost all of theirs for the league to be decided on goal difference.
Salulani Phiri gave Zanaco an early lead but his goal was cancelled by Chipungu Musukuma, four minutes before the break.
Third placed Power Dynamos are out of the title race and now only have a mathematical chance of finishing in second place.
Green Buffaloes maintain fourth position with 46 points despite losing 1 – 0 to a Festus Mbewe goal at Red Arrows.
