Enyimba stunned, keep NPFL top spot

El-Kanemi Warriors stunned six-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Enyimba FC 2-1 on match day 30 but the Peoples Elephant remain top of the standings.

The leaders started sluggishly at the Karkanda Stadium, Katsina and were a goal down after just eight minutes after Benjamin Turba fired an unstoppable drive past the helpless Joshua Enaholo in goal for Enyimba.

Enyimba were 0-2 down after 28 minutes as Efe Yahere scored clinically to send shock waves across the division.

Nzube Anaezemba pulled a goal back late in the game but it amounted to scant consolation as the Aba club lost only for the fifth time this season.

It was the first time Enyimba would be conceding twice in the first half of a league game this season.

Enyimba however stayed top of the standings as they have amassed 55 points from 30 matches.

Warri Wolves stay second despite losing 1-2 to Abia Warriors in Umuahia.

Henry Ochuba sent the home fans into raptures with the opening goal of the contest after four minutes but the visitors hit back five minutes later through Osadiaye Joseph.

The Warriors however hit had the last laugh as they scored again through Ifeanyi Onyeali on 54 minutes as Wolves were left to contemplate what might have been.

Wikki Tourists moved up to third after a 2-0 victory over Bayelsa United thanks to goals from Mubarak Umar and Nafiu Ibrahim.

The champions, Kano Pillars drew 1-1 with FC Ifeanyiubah in Nnewi.

Adamu Mohammed put Sai Masugida in front after 18 minutes but Meshack Chukwubuikem levelled matters for the hosts in the 83rd minute.

Dolphins FC moved away from the relegation zone after beating FC Taraba 3-1 at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium.

Godbless Asamoah got a brace for Dolphins with Omo Johnson getting the other while Bishop Onyeaudo got the consolation for the visitors.

The win lifts Dolphins away from the drop zone as Stanley Eguma’s charges have now notched up 34 points from 30 matches.

Sharks returned to the relegation zone after suffering a 0-1 defeat to Giwa FC at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.

Esosa Igbinoba was the difference between defeat and victory for Nasarawa United as his 16th minute strike gave the hosts a 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers in Lafia.

Seun Akinyemi scored the decisive goal as Shooting Stars beat Akwa United 1-0 in Uyo.

In Saturday’s only game, Sunshine Stars recorded a stunning 2-1 win over Kwara United in Ilorin.

Heartland drew 0-0 with Lobi Stars at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

It was yet another fantastic match day in the NPFL with seven home wins, one away win, one scoreless draw, one score draw and 20 goals recorded.
